Finding a House
Construction Materials --- Location --- Wiring --- Quick Solutions

Houses are subject to a phenomenon termed "Dirty Power." That is, the power to your house is not simply the 50/60Hz wave promised by your electrical company, but rather is corrupted in some form, to include other frequencies through transients and harmonics. The concept of Dirty Power was coined by Magda Havas and David Stetzer ("Dirty Electricity and Electrical Hypersensitivity"[1]).

Very few houses have any safeguards to make them impervious to Dirty Power. Houses are built in the belief that power grids, substations, and transformers are properly wired and properly functioning at all times. Houses are also built with the belief that no one might try to hijack your house's electrical system. In actual fact, theft, burglary, and malfeasance occurs through electronic means, not just through your front door.

A) Electrical Wires

The electrical wires used in most houses can cause problems with EMF sensitive individuals. An electrical wire is actually comprised of multiple wires designed to cancel each other out. Unfortunately, "imbalanced" wires are in circulation and are common in residential housing.

Ordinarily, "imbalanced" wires should not be too much of a problem. However, this situation can be exploited to create severe swings in your electrical system.

To correct this situation, you will need to custom build a house and only use "balanced" wiring. You can remove and replace all of your current wiring in your existing house. This involves significant demolition and reconstruction.

Houses that have walls that are made of stone, tile, concrete or other such materials can help reduce the impact from imbalanced wiring. If you already own a house, tiling the interior walls with porcelain (or ceramic) or stone will help reduce problems with interior wiring as well as exterior fields.

B) Telephones

Telephones are likely to be a primary problem in your house. Some countries (e.g. in Europe) require houses to install major telecom equipment in your residence. You will need to unplug and remove all fuses that are inside this telecom box. You may also have a fuse for this telecom equipment in your main fuse box that you will need to switch off. It is likely that your phone will still work with all of this telecom equipment turned off.

In other countries, you are not required to have major telecom equipment at your house. This greatly lessens the EMF load, and your landline phone may be a much smaller part of the EMF equation at your residence.

C) Fire Alarms

Built in fire alarms can be a major problem for EMF sensitive individuals. We recommend physically removing your fire alarm, taping off the ends of the wires with electrical tape, and then using a battery operated fire alarm in its place.

D) Intercoms

We strongly recommend that you do not purchase or rent a house with a built in Intercom system if you are EMF sensitive. Intercoms for example, are used to monitor the gate or front entry to your house¨. Frequently intercom monitors or phones are found in several rooms throughout your house.

If you happen to live in a house or apartment with an Intercom system, you will need to find the fuse for the Intercom in the main circuit box for your house and turn this fuse off.

E) Security Systems

We strongly recommend that you do not purchase or rent a house with a built in security system if you are EMF sensitive. If you have the misfortune of owning a house with a security system, you will need to turn off the security service. You will also need to physically remove all boxes that connect to the security system. Even then, you are likely to have problems as the wires from the security system will extend to every window and door of your house and can cause ongoing problems.

If you own a house with security, you should check to see if part of the house, such as the garage, is not part of the security system.

If you need some security, we recommend a standalone system, that is not built into your house, that you can plug in and out and remove whenever necessary.

F) Utility and Other Networks

Certain official networks use the power grid in addition to regular house wiring. This includes utility companies. The overlaying of the power grid with other networks can create problems with Dirty Power, and create significant problems for EMF sensitives.

F) Centralized appliances

Certain major appliances, such as a centralized vacuum cleaner, can cause problems for EMF sensitives throughout the house. To address this, you will need to unplug the appliance if possible, and turn off the fuse running this device.

G) Grounding

Many houses are not adequately grounded. You should check to confirm that your house has a grounding rod that is several feet below ground attached to your main electrical panel. All other forms of grounding, e.g. through plumbing, are insufficient.

H) Solar Power

An ideal house for an individual with EMF Sensitivity is one that is solar powered. The power grid is considered to provide "dirty power"[1], that is, with frequencies above and beyond the 50-60 Hz that the electricity company is supposed to deliver to your house. To the extent that you use solar power, you will reduce any effect from dirty power.

Be careful to buy a solar power system that is not attached to the power grid. Many solar operators state that you can earn money by supplying power back to the grid. If you are highly EMF sensitive, however, you should not reconnect back to the citywide electrical grid.

Tell your provider that you would like DC (Direct Current) electricity at your house. DC electricity is preferred for individuals with EMF sensitivity as it is believed that it is the variance in the EMF field that causes individuals to experience health problems. Most solar systems automatically include a conversion to AC (Alternating Current) power, which is not necessary or preferred.

I) Generators

Another way to get off the power grid and away from "dirty power"[1] is to install a generator at your house. These can be purchased at your local hardware store and be temporarily or permanently installed at your house.
