Using a Cell Phone

Selecting a cell phone:

Even if you are EMF sensitive, you may want to own a cell phone for emergency reasons or because you have no other way to be reached. You can research which cell phones have the lowest SAR values at the following sites:

CNET review of 10 lowest SAR Cell phones

FCC information regarding SAR values

SAR stands for Specific Absorption Rate, and the FCC requires that a cell phone must have a SAR less than 1.6W/kg

Remember that cell phones use different frequencies and also have different added features that you may be specifically sensitive to, such as GPS or 3G. SARs is an important value, but not the only attribute that you should concentrate on. In particular, we recommend cell phones without GPS capability for EMF sensitive individuals.

Selecting a Carrier:

We have had success with Metro PCS (Personal Communications Service) as our cellular service of choice (although they do not have complete geographical coverage).

We recommend that individuals try different cell phone services to find the one most suitable for them.

The Off Button:

For individuals with EMF Sensitivity, we recommend limited use of cell phones. We also recommend that your cell phone be turned off unless you are making a call, and for the battery to be removed when not in use.
